William Lloyd Garrison on Lost Arguments

With reasonable men, I will reason; with humane men I will plead; but to tyrants I will give no quarter, nor waste arguments where they will certainly be lost.

As quoted on "William Lloyd Garrison, 1805-1879: The Story of His Life Told by His Children" by Wendell Phillips Garrison and Francis Jackson Garrison (1885). William Lloyd Garrison (1805–1879) was a prominent American abolitionist, journalist, and social reformer. He is best known as the editor of the abolitionist newspaper The Liberator, which he founded in 1831 and published in Massachusetts until slavery was abolished by Constitutional amendment after the American Civil War.
